MEgan Desoto: Mother on Display

Fort Worth, Texas — Art Room is pleased to present Mother on Display by Megan DeSoto at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center. The show runs December 6 through 28, 2019.
Megan DeSoto’s work contains photographs, wallpaper, and sculptures to highlight her personal journey through motherhood. With the use of found object, she questions cultural perception of mothers; their public and private personas, the intimate spaces they occupy and the visual value they accrue through the use of what she has labeled, object portraiture.
Art Room has the privilege of showing Megan DeSoto’s work in conjunction with A Collective Takeover of FWCAC, which features Fort Worth-area collectives and organizations. The opening reception is December 6, 2019, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
About the Artist
Megan DeSoto describes her photographs as object portraiture. She creates large scale digital imagery by gathering domestic objects, florals and mannequins and utilizes a television screen backdrop. DeSoto investigates social media, culture, and family tradition to better understand, embrace and defy the dynamics that play into the pressures of today’s woman and perceived role in society. Her imagery is influenced by fashion and commercial work as well as fine art photographers such as Patty Carroll, Laura Letinsky and Kimberly Witham. Megan DeSoto lives and works in Fort Worth, Texas. She graduated with her BFA at the University of Texas at Arlington under Kenda North and her MFA at the University of North Texas studying under Paho Mann and Dornith Doherty. She has exhibited work in various group shows throughout Texas.
