SIX: Small Works Show
DECEMBER 1 – 4, 2016
Art Room is excited to present its small works, group exhibition SIX. This show will feature the works of local, regional, and national artists and celebrates the innovation of artists creating artwork in a small, intimate scale through a variety of media.
The collection of pieces in SIX showcases collage, drawing, fiber, illustration, mixed media, painting, and photography. The artists utilize a small scale for their works, which will draw the audience into the pieces in an intimate and personal manner. SIX brings the viewer closer to the artists and their working methodologies and techniques with a sense of immediacy as Art Room invites patrons to experience the small works through form and content.
The pieces in the exhibition flourish as the artists approach subject matter through a keen eye on detail and intention. The concepts range from aesthetically pleasing landscapes to process and design to illusory reveries. Rebecca Shewmaker creates graceful landscapes with watercolor and embroidery, exploring the tactile quality of the materials and organic terrain of the land. The photographic works by Tiffany Milow take an experimental approach to image making as the artist explores the combination of digital and analog photography through chemigrams; she creates an abstraction of recognizable digital imagery through gelatin silver chemical alterations. The breadth of artistic talent in Art Room’s 2016 season’s closing exhibition, SIX, is sure to spark inspiration and intrigue in the DFW community as it brings to our attention the value of small works that “pack a punch.”
